PUT OUR AUSTRALIAN DAIRY FARMERS FIRST
Farmer Power has been campaigning hard to help bring about real change for our Australian Dairy Farmers.
The Liberal/National Party implemented an enquiry into Australian Dairy Industry because they could see it was in trouble.
The ACCC has now delivered on that report with a major recommendation for the introduction of a Mandatory Code of Conduct.
This is the first step as we see it in helping turn around the fortunes of our Australian Dairy Farmers, there are many other issues that still need addressing but getting this Mandatory Code of conduct in place will help return some hope to dairy farmers as well as boost to their moral.
So, what are the benefits of such a code and how will it help Dairy Farmers???
The two main points under the Mandatory Code are the Transparency and Fairness that would come into effect between the Processor and the Farmer
The Mandatory code of Conduct would address the following
- The obligation on processors to give timely and transparent information to farmers about the terms on which they propose to acquire milk from farmers.
- Requirements that make it easier for farmers to switch processors
- Requirements addressing processors’ ability to change key trading terms
- Retrospective step-downs: prohibition of terms in milk supply agreements that allow retrospective step-downs.
- Other step-downs: prescription of circumstances in which step-downs more generally are appropriate or inappropriate.
- Unilateral variation: prohibition or limitation on the unilateral variation of agreement terms by processors without the consent of a farmer.
- Dispute resolution process should require that contracts contain an effective independent dispute resolution process for disputes arising between processors and farmers.
- Good faith requirement should explicitly require processors and farmers to act in good faith during negotiations, performance of the contract, dispute resolution and the ending of an agreement.

Dear Minister
As an Australian I have real concerns for our Australian Dairy Farmers
Our Dairy Farmers need your help. I have been made aware what the ACCC report into the Australian Dairy Industry and its recommendations
Transparency and fairness sound like something that has been missing in our Dairy Industry for quite some time now.
My family and myself support the call for the Introduction of a Mandatory Code of conduct in the Dairy Industry
We hope that you will listen to us and the many other Australians and their Families who want to see our Dairy Farmers survive
So please bring about this change for the sake of our Australian Dairy Farmers and implement the ACCC findings now or alternatively help to expediate the process on their behalf
